Frequently Asked Questions

* Why airbrush tan?

Everyone wants that year round “healthy glow” that tanning
can give you. However, skin cancer has become the #1 cancer
in America. The suns damaging UV Rays not only increase
your chances of skin cancer but also cause wrinkles and
irreversible sun damage to the skin. Tanning in tanning beds
increases this damage by 9 times. And over exposure to either
zaps the skins natural moisture giving that leathery
appearance we all dread. Customized airbrush tanning is a
safe, fast and effective alternative allowing you to achieve a
gorgeous tan without the risk of devastating consequences.

* How does Airbrush Tanning work?

The active ingredient in almost all modern sunless tanning
products is Dihydroxyacetone (DHA) a colorless sugar, DHA
interacts with the proteins and amino acids in the outer layer
of your skin producing a beautiful natural looking golden
brown color. In application the clear DHA solution is mixed
with a bronzer allowing you to see instant results after
application. DHA color subtlety builds over the next 12 hours
and fades naturally through the skins exfoliation. With proper
maintenance one application can last anywhere from 5-10
days depending on the individuals daily activity. Regular
follow up visits can keep you in a vibrant sexy glow 365 days a
year!

* Is DHA safe?

The answer is absolutely. DHA has been FDA approved since
1973 and is commonly used in many cosmetic and food
products. Aspen Glow uses the only the best equipment and
tanning solution formulated for the individual needs and DHA
levels of the clients.

* How do I prepare for my Airbrush Tan?

Proper preparation is key in creating the best sun kissed look
possible and can add to the longevity of your tan. For best
results please exfoliate and shave less than 8 hours before your
appointment. When showering wash and condition hair prior
to washing the skin. These products can leave a trail of residue
running down the back. Also avoid using perfumes,
deodorants, and creams. All of these can block the tanning
solutions penetration to the skin not allowing maximized
tanning results.

* What should I wear to my appointment?

All tans at Aspen Glow are done according to the clients
comfort level. Allowing both female and male clients to choose
the amount of tanlines they will tolerate (men must wear undergarments). For clients wishing to
tan in bathing suits or underwear please note to wear darker
colors or older garments as they will be subjected to the
solution. Wear loose fitting, dark colored, comfortable
clothing and shoes such as sandals to avoid rubbing the
solution off. The bronzer used during the application can get
onto your clothing. If you will be wearing nice clothing after a
treatment we will spray without the bronzer. In most cases it
washes out of fabrics. Loose clothes are also easiest to put
back on and drastically reduce the chance of causing any lines
while the tanning solution sets in. If any stains do occur
soaking and washing almost always does the trick! However
certain fabric’s such as silk and nylon can be more unwilling
to let go so please avoid wearing these to your appointment.

* What Can I do while the tan sets in?

As your tans sets in it is best to not physically exert yourself or
do anything that will cause excessive sweating. This can block
the DHA from fully reacting with the skins amino acids,
essentially washing it away. Your specialist will also ask you to
refrain from showering, swimming and hot tub/ sauna usage.
The specialist will also discuss when to shower off the bronzer
for your best achievable color. Other than those activities you
are free to go out and enjoy your new tan.

* Will I turn orange?

NO!!!!! Orange coloring is the result of over doing. Your
trained specialist will discuss with you the amount of color
that best suits your natural skin tone to achieve the most
natural looking golden tan.

* Can an Airbrush Tan be removed?

Airbrush tans naturally fade through exfoliation. It can not be
removed any other way. The more time spent in water or
rubbing it the faster it will fade, However, it is not wise to try
to “rub it raw” to get it off.

* How Can I Make my Tan Last?

A Tan usually lasts from 5-10 days depending on your activity
level. The best way to make it last is to maintain and show it a
little TLC.

* Can I go swimming and take baths?

The answer is yes but prepare. Prolonged exposure to water
will increase the rate to which your tan fades but it’s there to
enjoy and show off. Using a good thick sun screen will coat the
skin and slow down this process by creating a barrier between
the water and skin.

* Will my Airbrush Tan protect me from the sun?

Absolutely not! In general the” base tan” theory is a bit of a
myth. When the skin is darker due to any kind of UV exposure
or sunless tanning product it is harder to see the beginnings of
a burn. So protect yourself and always use a good sunscreen of
at least SPF 30 or higher.

* Can I Airbrush Tan if I can not Tan in beds or Sun?

Yes, a very fair person can get color through airbrushing. The
reaction created through DHA does not require melanocytes
to achieve a beautiful dark tan.
